Superintendent's Message to Staff - 6/1/18
Published on 6/4/18
It may have been a short work week, but it was action-packed in the SCSD! The week started off with Leadership Academies for our principals, vice principals and administrative interns. The school year may be coming to a close, but our school leaders are still hard at work trying to improve their school culture and student outcomes. I appreciate the dedication of all of our staff as you continue to stay focused and work hard in these last few weeks of the 2017-18 school year.
Today, I was pleased to meet with our 2018 Valedictorians and Salutatorians for a luncheon at the Genesee Grande. I am extremely proud of this exceptional group of young people who are going to achieve great success, so remember these names: Lilly La, William Dejesus, Trang Nguyen, Makenna Reynolds, Laxmi Khatiwada, Dhruvi Patel, Tyler Bonferraro, Anna Wojcik, Myles Cherebin and Joshua Francis Lacey-Baldwin!
The OCC LPP program in collaboration with Hillside Work Scholarship Connection hosted students and staff from Danforth, Lincoln and Westside for a reception as the students unveiled their SCSD Pride Projects. Thank you to SCSD teacher Ms. Heather Marzullo for coordinating the event and congratulations to the students on a job well done.
Our 7th students at ELMS held their annual Day of Peace with presentations inside and out of the field behind the school. These students did a great job presenting and are making a difference in our community as they spread the message of Peace. Great job by all of the students and staff who took part!
The weather was perfect this week for outdoor learning. Many of our students enjoyed a beautiful day of baseball on Wednesday at the Syracuse Chiefs Education Day. Syracuse Latin and Corcoran students visited Orenda Springs, ELMS students spent an afternoon learning about teamwork on a ropes course, and Webster students visited Camp Talooli. It is always great to see learning extend beyond the classroom walls! Don’t miss this week’s #SCSDLookBack video to see photos of our students enjoying these experiences and others.
On Thursday night, Corcoran hosted a Senior Signing Night to recognize all students who have committed to a college, career or the military. Our soon-to-be 2018 graduates have high ambitions and I know they will continue on to great success. I look forward to sharing more Class of 2018 news in the weeks to come!
