This is a group photo of students recognized with Partners for Education & Business Awards holding their certificates.Graduation is approaching… in just two weeks, we will welcome our newest group of #SCSDAlumni! This week, I enjoyed heading to Arrowhead Lodge with members of this year’s Superintendent’s Student Cabinet for a year-end celebration and to thank the students who shared their insights with me this year. There are so many student leaders in the SCSD and I wish our seniors well as they continue on to their next steps.

Student STEM leaders from Corcoran, ITC and Nottingham – and our P-TECH program – were recognized this week at the 25th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Awards of Partners for Education & Business… with Nottingham senior Myles Cherebin and Corcoran senior Trang Nguyen were selected as this year’s SRC STEM Scholars! The two students each received a $5,000 per year scholarship, as well as a guaranteed internship during the summer of their second or third years of college. Three of the previous scholarship winners have since been hired by SRC, Inc. so this an especially meaningful achievement.

Seniors at PSLA at Fowler were recognized on Wednesday night at the school’s Academic & Athletic Awards celebration, and Corcoran seniors were recognized at Honors Night. This is a great time of year to celebrate our students’ achievements. Frazer scholars were recognized this week as well – scholars who had 95% attendance for the school year received golden tickets for a special family bowling night at Destiny USA! Congratulations to all of our students who continue working hard and coming to school every day.

Our Clary students had a unique treat this week, as they took part in a “Let Me Be Great” assembly. Leaders and support staff from around the city and county came together to help students create vision boards and define what success means to them. At ELMS, sixth graders hosted their inaugural 2K Stewardship Run to wrap up their year-long exhibition focusing on community heroes. I was pleased to be there at the finish line to commend the students on a job well done. What a great way to help end the year on a high note!

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features a Parent University Family Literacy event, Syracuse Latin scholars visiting DiNitto Farms, Clary and ELMS scholars participating in Paige’s Butterfly Run, Van Duyn, Franklin and Seymour students competing in the CNY Rocket Team Challenge, Lincoln scholars touring SU, Grant students visiting Orenda Springs, Dr. King scholars learning from the Syracuse Fire Department, Westside Academy at Blodgett scholars touring RPI and more.

Sincerely,
Jaime
