Superintendent's Message 4/5/19

As our students in grades 3-8 prepared for testing this week, the Corcoran step and dance teams visited several schools to share their #SCSDSpirit and give the younger students a mental boost! It’s great to see our older students serving as role models and cheering on our younger students. At Dr. King, staff made an extra effort to get students motivated before the test – don’t miss this video of Mr. Gyder and Mr. Brown performing an ELA-themed rap!

In case you missed it, Grant scholars were featured on NewsChannel 9 this week as part of a new Victory Over Violence segment. The Grant scholars have created a ‘Gators Against Violence Coalition’ in which they work together to spread a message of anti-violence through their school and community. The students are eager to branch out to other schools, and we look forward to supporting them as they put their ideas into practice. Stay tuned, because in the coming weeks, a couple of other SCSD programs will be featured for their anti-violence efforts. I will be sure to share those with you as well.

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features students performing at the All-City Chorus concert last weekend, staff being recognized at the SCSD Educational Foundation breakfast last weekend, Franklin students learning about habitats and equipment used in space, Porter students celebrating a culture fair and fashion show, Lincoln staff celebrating Autism Awareness Month, Dr. King students visiting the MOST and more.

Finally, this weekend, 21 of our elementary students will be participating in the Elementary All County Concert, Saturday at 1 pm at North Syracuse Junior High School (5353 Taft Road). I encourage you to attend to support these talented #SCSDArts students!

Sincerely,
Jaime
