Dear Van Duyn Elementary Families:

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 2019-20 school year at Van Duyn Elementary School (VDES)!  We are proud of the progress that our students made last year, yet we believe that each year we WILL do even better. We look forward to a very positive and productive year ahead.
We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible.  We want . . . we need . . . and we value your engagement and support in your child’s education!  Your active participation is key to the success of your child.
Please know that we highly value home/school communication at Van Duyn.  It is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s success.  We encourage you to contact us if/when the need arises, and to stay in the know about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings.  In the coming weeks, you will learn about Class Dojo, it an app that allows for “real time” communication between home and school.  We encourage all parents to download the app in order to stay in constant communication with the teachers and get information about VDES.
Our First Day of School is Thursday, September 5, 2019
Students in grades K-5 will begin their day with breakfast (FREE) at 8:30 am in their classroom.  The school day will end at 3:50pm.   Pre-K students will have Orientation on September 5th at 10:00am – 11:00am.  The full day of school for Pre-K students is September 6th.
Van Duyn Elementary is proud of our student achievement and positive school culture. We are destined for more amazing happenings and student growth in the 2019-20 school year. The gifts and talents of our students combined with the dedication and passion of our teachers allows us to strive for and achieve excellence. Excellence is not the result of a good intention or clever slogan. It is not a value that is easily achieved. It comes from a strong desire to improve how we do things and when we know better…we do better.
I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports student success.
