Important Information Regarding the First Day of School on September 8th

Your child’s education is important to us and we are excited for the 2021-22 school year! The first day of school in the Syracuse City School District will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

The New York State Department of Health has recommended that school district’s and local health departments follow the recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance regarding the reopening of school. This guidance suggests in part, that all individuals wear masks indoors, maintain three feet of physical distance when possible and to continue testing staff and students.

Onondaga County will be releasing local guidance and it is our hope that we will return to five day, in-person instruction for all students with the exception of those who are medically unable to attend in-person. We will follow the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and Onondaga County Health Departments recommendations so that we can open the school year safely.

The health, wellness and safety of our students, staff and families is a top priority and one that we take very seriously. We encourage anyone who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated. Getting the vaccine is the best way to stay safe and beat this virus!

As always, for the latest information, please keep an eye on our website – or follow us on Facebook (@SyracuseCitySchools) or Twitter (@SyracuseSchools). We will continue to provide you with updated information as it becomes available.
