Students from Nottingham High School who participated in Mrs. Benedetto’s Cultural Voices class spent some time with their pen pals at Ed Smith – who are third-graders in Mrs. Fiacchi’s class.

The goal of the program is to build relationships and a sense of community between high school students and elementary school students in the Syracuse City School District. The high school students spent about two weeks created homemade children’s books for the Ed Smith students. The books embraced a number of themes including diversity, multiculturalism and social justice issues. They also celebrated a variety of cultures.
