Superintendent's Message to Staff - 11/9/17

Staff took part in a math lesson in Arabic to help them understand the perspective of their ENL students. This week provided us with a great opportunity to take part in professional development and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Unit 11 staff took part in training from HelpPeople and learned about Culturally Responsive Education; 4th grade teachers learned about soils, rocks and landforms in Science PD; ENL teachers engaged in data analysis; Corcoran staff experienced a math lesson in Arabic to understand the perspective of their ENL students and more. At Dr. Weeks, students even took ownership of their learning by leading parent-teacher conferences! I am proud of all of your hard work and appreciate your engagement in PD and Parent-Teacher Conferences this week.

On Wednesday, the fourth grade team at Dr. Weeks presented a lesson study at Roxboro Road Middle School. The lesson study was the product of two months of work between the fourth grade team and Dr. Sharon Dotger, as a result of new alignment in their embedded enrichment program. Both the students and staff that presented were exceptional and represented our district with distinction. I look forward to seeing the ongoing results from this enrichment program!

Finally, SCSD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow in observance of Veteran’s Day. Enjoy the long weekend and be sure to take the time to say ‘thank you’ to a veteran or current service member.

Before the weekend begins, I encourage you to take a moment to look back on the great things that happened in our schools this week. This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features Henninger students marching in the Veteran’s Day Parade last weekend, social studies activities at Lincoln and Syracuse Latin, P-Tech girls speaking at Girls World Expo, a ‘Fun Night’ at ITC and much more.

Sincerely,
Jaime
