Superintendent's Message to Staff - 11/17/17
Published on 11/27/17
This week, Grant Middle School students, thanks to Charter Communications and Congressman Katko, welcomed a panel of veterans as part of a ‘Take a Vet to School Day’ event. A panel of veterans shared their story with students and then took part in a question and answer session. This was a great opportunity for our students to show appreciation for veterans and become #SCSDCivicReady and I was honored to observe the event.
I also appreciated the opportunity to visit with the Nottingham Language Club, led by Ms. Crowell. Our district is wonderful at celebrating diversity, and this club provides a great way for students to expand their knowledge and learn a new language.
On Tuesday, our schools again hosted Parent-Teacher Conferences. This week is American Education Week – and Tuesday happened to be Parents Day – so the timing couldn’t have been better. In many of our buildings, we saw parents engaged in their children’s education and it is important that we continue this momentum as the second marking period gets underway.
This month on social media, we have been encouraging you to share with us the things that make you feel thankful using #SCSDGivesThanks. Our #SCSDLookBack videos always help me appreciate the hard work of our students, staff and families! The latest one features Clary students sharing feedback about school meals, P-Tech students visiting the CNY Engineering Expo, ELMS students visiting local businesses, students making social studies blogs & learning about fire safety at Salem Hyde, science lessons at Webster, yoga enrichment at Syracuse Latin, students leading Parent-Teacher Conferences at Lincoln, ENL night at Corcoran and more.
It will be a short week next week as we celebrate Thanksgiving Recess – enjoy the weekend and let’s be prepared to make next week great!
