SCSD, Say Yes Launch Parent University

The Syracuse City School District and Say Yes to Education are hosting a kickoff summit for the district’s Parent University. The summit will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Onondaga Community College.

Superintendent Sharon L. Contreras will open the Summit and address the parents in attendance.  Keynote speaker will be Principal Baruti Kafele, a best-selling author who works to motivate, educate and empower parents, children and educators.

Parent University classes are free and open to parents, grandparents and caregivers of Syracuse City School District students. Transportation to the kickoff is available and childcare is provided for those who pre-register. The kickoff summit features three sessions of classes and includes lunch and drawings for door prizes.

Among the 32 classes being offered at the summit: Parents are Teachers – Literacy for Change, Say Yes in Plain Language, Raising a Son in the Absence of His Father and Synthetic Drugs, Danger in the Design.
