Huntington K-8 School
July 2012
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope that everyone is staying cool and finding time to relax during these hot summer days.
This school year, our district will be implementing the Common Core State Standards. These new standards have been incorporated into the district’s new curriculum. These curriculum documents will soon be accessible on the school’s web site and available for viewing. I encourage you to look for PTO Meeting announcements this fall as we are planning to offer curriculum overview sessions for parents.
We have had several staffing changes that have occurred over the early part of the summer. To date, the following new staff members will be joining the Huntington School faculty:
- Deborah Poswiata Kindergarten Teacher
- JoAnn Bolduc Sixth Grade Teacher
- Angelo D’Agostino Part-time Guidance Counselor
- Janice Hammerle Technology Teacher
At the date of publication of this newsletter, we are still anticipating new staff members.
Our teachers have been involved in a great deal of staff development this summer. The district has offered a wide range of opportunities for teachers to sharpen their skills. This staff development supports the superintendent’s mission of having a highly qualified teacher in every classroom.
It is extremely important that you update your phone number or any address change with the school by August 1, 2012 so that we can update transportation routes and ensure that you receive any summer communication that the school or district may be mailing to parents.
Please read the enclosed newsletter carefully to make sure you are up-to-date with all the Huntington School news. In addition to this newsletter, the Huntington School web site will be updated later this summer, www.scsd.us.
We fondly wish the following staff members the best of luck as they have made the decision to retire: Mrs. Hayman, Mrs. Daily, Mrs. Barbero, Mrs. Hennigan, Mr. Perrine, Mrs. Antenucci, Mrs. Hennessy and Mrs. Newman.
We look forward to a productive school year!
Sincerely,
Marc V. Parrillo & Richard H. Ballenger
