Dear Syracuse City School District Families and Staff,

Today, an employee at Salem Hyde Elementary School reported that they have tested positive for COVID-19. The school building was disinfected and sanitized last night, as it is every night, and the employee did not report to work today after testing positive.

We notified the Onondaga County Health Department immediately upon learning of this positive diagnosis and they have begun their independent contact tracing process. They will be in touch with those, both staff members and students, who they believe may have been exposed to the individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member will be isolating at home for the mandated period of time and will not return to work until they are cleared to by the County Health Department.

Our custodians have already begun thoroughly disinfecting and sanitizing the areas of the building where the person was present.  Further disinfection, including spraying the entire building utilizing our electrostatic sprayers, will be completed this weekend.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely, both in our schools and throughout the County.  We will keep you updated if new information becomes available.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work through this together.

Sincerely,

Jaime Alicea
Superintendent of Schools
