Better World Day '21 @ Brighton Academy

Our focus for Better World Day is centered on making the world a better place for all people and cultures considering the events in our country. Really looking at the learning targets and being able to celebrate our students' heritages.

Background Information:
Each year thousands of students from the EL Education network take action on Better World Day to co-create a better world in partnership with their local communities, connect with each other, and celebrate meaningful student work. It’s a day where we get to experience school the way our students do every day: as a place where learning is the key to changing the world.

We took action during the month of April through the EL Design Principle of Diversity and Inclusion: Both diversity and inclusion increase the richness of ideas, creative power, problem-solving ability, and respect for others. In Expeditionary Learning schools, students investigate and value their different histories and talents as well as those of other communities and cultures. Schools and learning groups are heterogeneous.

Learning targets for the month:

  •  I can investigate diversity and learn to value the need for inclusion of all.

  •  I can respect other’s differences and value their ideas.
