The Syracuse City School District held its third annual volunteer luncheon to honor district volunteers. This year 575 people in the SCSD community were honored for their commitment to the district and its students.

The luncheon was held in the Campus Center of LeMoyne College. Volunteers received certificates of recognition and were entertained by performances from the Dr. King Children’s Choir and the Nottingham Jazz Ensemble.  The volunteers spanned across all of the schools and helped with clerical needs, assisted during lunch periods, served as mentors and tutors and as chaperones for field trips.  These are just a few examples of the countless ways our volunteers service is helpful in the schools.

Superintendent Sharon Contreras delivered the opening remarks, expressing on behalf of the district the appreciation felt for the work of the volunteers. They have been instrumental in maintaining the school day. Additional remarks were made by Sam Barber, principal of Edward Smith K-8 School, and Patricia Body, President of the Board of Education.
