Through Upstate Medical University, the Multi-Cultural Affairs School Supply Drive collected almost 2,000 items that were distributed to the seven SCSD Innovation Zone (iZone) schools.  Students in the iZone schools received pens, pencils, crayons, markers, rulers, binders, paper, folder, scissors, notebooks and other supplies.

The seven SCSD iZone schools include Bellevue Elementary School, Danforth Middle School, Frazer K-8 School, Porter Elementary School, Seymour Dual Language Academy, Van Duyn Elementary School and Westside Academy at Blodgett.

Lamees Galal, the Coordinator for Cross Cultural Programming and Awareness at Upstate Media University, said working with the District was rewarding. “I think it's really powerful when the students and staff at Upstate team up with the students and staff at the Syracuse City School District,” he explained. “These types of collaborations make our community stronger, and I'm proud that I was able to be a part of that.”

Thank you to Chuck Simpson, the Director of Campus Activities and Special Projects at Upstate Medical University, and his team for their substantial contributions during the Multi-Cultural Affairs School Supply Drive. Partnerships with organizations like Upstate Medical University are crucial to the success of the SCSD Innovation Zone Schools and the Syracuse City School District!
