Dear 8th Grade Families,

The New Year is upon us and that means it is time to start planning for your child’s transition to high school! There have been many recent changes to the high school transition process in our district and my hope is to make this transition as smooth as possible for you.  I will be hosting a High School Parent Information Night for all eighth grade families on Thursday, February 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.  I will present information about the various Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that are now available in each of the high schools and the application process.  Representatives from Corcoran, Public Service Leadership Academy (PSLA) at Fowler and the Institute of Technology at Tech Central (ITC) will be on hand to discuss programs at their schools.

Please note, you and your child now have the choice to apply to any of the CTE programs through an online application.  The High School Choice Program Application will be available online beginning March 1st and it will end March 31st.  All applications must be completed online through the district website by this deadline.

In addition, I would like to meet with you and your child in an individual high school planner meeting to ensure that you have all of the information that you need.  At this meeting we will review your child’s academic performance, individual career plans and program selections, course options for high school, and the application process.  Please contact me at 435-4836 or judunn97@scsd.us to schedule your high school planner meeting.  I will also have sign-up sheets at the High School Information Night.

There are several activities and new information that will be coming out throughout the next few months.  In order to help you stay on top of the updates and deadlines, I have set up an account through Remind, which is a messaging tool that will allow me to text you reminders and updates directly to your phone or email.  In order to subscribe to my text updates, please text this message: @mrsjdunn to the number, 81010.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout this transition process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
