SCSD students from Nottingham and ITC traveled to New Orleans to compete against more than 50 teams from across the U.S., Canada and even Australia at the International Kidwind Competition.

Nottingham students Jaleel Berry and Jevon Jones, along with ITC students Tyreik Mayo and Zach Mayo, participated in a slow wind tunnel competition, a fast wind tunnel competition, a presentation, a question and answer session and a team-building challenge. Despite this being their first in-depth competition, the team placed in 10th place! Nottingham Vice Principal Ken Baxter said that the students are already planning for future wind turbine challenges, including National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) competitions. The students have even been inspired to submit a grant to the SCSD Educational Foundation for wind tunnel funding that would allow them to properly test their projects and would enable more students to get involved in the program. Congratulations to these students on their accomplishments!
