Dr. King Elementary school is dedicated to being a safe, orderly, and nurturing learning environment where students, staff and families hold high expectations that all children can learn. Our staff is committed to creating a standards-based environment where students experience rigorous lessons while learning perseverance and responsibility. Dr. King Elementary is committed to developing the whole child, which includes providing community-based partnerships and opportunities for all families to become actively involved in every aspect of their child’s education.

Dear Families,

On behalf of the Dr. King Administration, we welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year.  I extend a hand of fellowship to our returning parents and especially to our newest members to the King Family.  I am excited about the teaching and learning that will be taking place this year, and I am excited about the opportunities for learning, personal growth and new experiences that we will discover together as we carry out our duties in the ‘Dr. King Way”.
This year, we will focus on building a stronger King community, both in and outside of our school doors. Academic performance is always the ultimate goal of every staff member at Dr. King, however, that first begins with strong and meaningful relationships that promote optimal engagement of our students through the assistance and support of our parents.  My goal is to join you in continuing to provide the best possible educational experience for your child.

This year, we have added Personalized Learning (PL) as another extension to our outstanding WIN Intervention Program. Additionally, we have partnered with Syracuse University in launching our school’s first STEM program at every grade level. We are proud of the successes we achieved last year, and I look forward to this being another stellar year as we work together to positively impact learning outcomes for every child.

My mission is to first seek to understand then to support the needs of the existing culture. I will always work to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire skills to become citizens in a global and every changing society. We can accomplish our goals for our children by working as a team and I have no doubt we will again achieve excellence in our academic growth.
Have an outstanding school year.
Mrs. Andrea Ellis-Smith,
Proud Principal
 Best Regards,
Andrea Ellis-Smith, Principal
