Tiffany Scott, a student at Henninger High School, was able to get some real-world job experience recently at Upstate Medical University and spend some time with Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim.
Tiffany spent the day working with the marketing staff from Upstate. She was able to learn about jobs in marketing and health care during her job shadow and spent some time behind the scenes at a photo shoot that featured Boeheim and doctors from the hospital, including psychologist Rich O’Neill who appears in television commercials and on radio shows for Upstate. The commercial shoot Tiffany was able to watch was about prostate cancer services at Upstate.
Tiffany also saw a photo shoot that featured Dr. Ajeet Gajra, an oncologist and Dr. Oleg Shapiro, a urologist. The doctors’ photographs will be used in a marketing campaign for Upstate Medical University. Tiffany was also able to see the name of her employer, Best Buy, in the donor recognition display at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Tiffany’s job shadow was coordinated by Partners for Education & Business Inc., a local organization that helps students explore careers in Central New York, helps teachers see how classroom curriculum has real world applications and helps those looking for jobs connect with local employers.
