LETTER 8th Grade Families: High School Choice Survey Now Open!

Attention, 8th grade families! Students who will be transitioning into 9th grade in the fall have options when it comes to high school choice. We are asking that you assist us in gaining a better understanding of your child’s high school choice interests by completing the new High School Choice and Transfer survey: click here to view the survey. It will be open for completion through January 31, 2021.

This survey will help inform our middle school counselors and the High School Choice Team of each student’s interests as they transition into high school. Each parent/guardian must complete a survey for their 8th grader. If your child is not interested in a Career or Technical Education (CTE) or Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) Program, he or she will be assigned to their feeder school, if applicable, or can select to be considered for a transfer, based on certain eligibility requirements.

What is a Feeder School?

Per the district’s Board of Education (BOE) School Assignment Policy, 8th graders “feed” into a high school, when applicable.  A feeder high school is the school that is located within the same quadrant as your child’s middle school.

Most of the students enrolled in Grant, ELMS, McCarthy and OASIS are projected to their home schools.  Home school assignments are based on your current address in School Tool.

Students who attend Frazer and Syracuse STEM, along with a small percentage of students enrolled in Grant, ELMS and OASIS, do not have a feeder high school and are required to participate in the high school choice and transfer process.

Each student can select a maximum of two High School Choice options this year. To select a program, you simply need to complete the High School Choice and Transfer survey.

Once you complete the survey, your child’s middle school counselor and members of the High School Choice Team will ensure that your information is uploaded to Smartchoice so that your child can participate in the interview process, which will be conducted virtually and via phone this school year, beginning on December 16, 2020.
