Important Changes to the SCSD Calendar

There will be NO SCHOOL in the Syracuse City School District April 3-7, 2023, due to Spring Recess. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, April 10th!

Please note there have been several changes to the SCSD school calendar as well.

For some time, the observance of Eid al-Fitr has been a point of discussion among our Muslim students, staff, and families. Students have spoken often about their experience with Eid al-Fitr not being a recognized SCSD holiday, and their having to choose between celebrating the holiday with their families or coming to school.

In an effort to create not only a more inclusive school calendar but also a school environment where all students feel welcomed and celebrated, this year, the Board of Education has voted to recognize Eid al-Fitr as an observed holiday, which means there will be NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, April 21, 2023 in recognition of the Eid al-Fitr observance. Staff are to report.

To accommodate this change, assuming there are no more snow days this year, the last day of school in the SCSD will be June 22, 2023, which will be a HALF DAY for all students (this will be a full day for staff). There will be no school for students on June 23rd (which will be a full day for staff). This is a change from the original calendar.

In the SCSD, we will continue to prioritize being inclusive and welcoming. Changes like this truly make a difference for members of our community, and we hope this change demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our district is as inclusive as possible!
