SCSD Students Participate in Prestigious Bank of America Internship Program

This is a photo of two SCSD students, posing with their Bank of America internship supervisor, at the MOST.“I have my own office,” ITC senior Kira Forget explained with a smile. “On my first day, there were like: here’s your email address, here are your keys, here’s your office. I never thought I’d have this fancy of an experience at this age!”

Through the prestigious Bank of America Student Leaders program, Kira – and Corcoran senior Jasmine Williams – were selected as two of just 300 students nationwide to experience paid internships with nonprofits this summer. They were among more than 5,000 applicants nationwide! Through this experience, they were partnered with the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) for an eight-week paid internship experience, including a one-week experience in Washington, DC. At the MOST, Kira served as a Marketing intern, while Jasmine served as an Education intern.

“This has been such a great experience,” Jasmine shared. “I have been working with 4- to 7-year-old children, teaching them about topics like weather, space, and animals. My favorite part has been being able to see science so embraced in the younger kids and aspects of STEM being seen as fun and interesting topics for them to learn! I know that when you are in school, subjects like science can be made out to be boring – but through this experience, I have seen a huge shift in kids’ attitudes toward science! In the future, I hope to make big changes in my community through law and politics – so this experience is helping my learn about how our future generations like to learn, while allowing me to be a part of incorporating those key aspects into their learning.”

“I’ve always been interested in helping people, so I was immediately curious about this opportunity,” Kira explained. “I’ve really enjoyed writing about the exhibits at the MOST and doing behind the scenes work. I’ve had the opportunity to create social media posts, work on their website, and draft press releases, among other things. I enjoy creating, and I’ve long had an interest in business. This experience has shown me how the nonprofit side of business works – it’s been so interesting! This has opened up a lot of interesting opportunities and has shown me what I really want to do one day.”

Thank you to the MOST for hosting these two #SCSDCareerReady scholars for summer internships!
