Superintendent Sharon Contreras has convened a Task Force to re-write the district’s current interim Code of Conduct.   To ensure that the process is as comprehensive and inclusive as possible the Task Force is made up of numerous stakeholders in the district including parents, teachers, administrators, union leadership and community members.   The basic charge for the Task Force is to develop a Code of Conduct that will be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year. 

The Task Force will ensure that the new Code clearly and concisely reinforces the roles and responsibilities of students, staff and parents; sets forth expectations for student behavior; ensures fair, appropriate and equitable student discipline practices; and, complies with all applicable laws and regulations.  The scope of work will include, but not limited to, the following activities:

  • Review of disciplinary data
  • Review of discipline processes and procedures
  • Review and assessment of SCSD’s resources and supports for students and teachers
  • Develop familiarity with applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Research best practices for Codes of Conduct
  • Create opportunities for community input and feedback to gauge perceptions and experiences and to determine community beliefs and values regarding discipline practices

In the course of their work the task force will also:

  2. Explore the specific concerns that prompted the convening of the task force
  3. Explore the approaches to discipline and student support and features of exemplary code of conduct documents, policies and practices
  4. Identify the expected outcomes as a result of revisions and changes to the code of conduct and disciplinary practices
  5. Come to consensus about foundational approach and orientation for code of conduct
  6. Review the disciplinary data and discipline processes and procedures with attention to applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  7. Research the best practices for Codes of Conduct
