June 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we end the 2017-18 school year, the administration, faculty and staff at the Expeditionary Learning Middle School would like to thank you for the opportunity to work with your children this past school year.  We would like to take a moment to share some accomplishments from this year so that you may join us in celebrating our success.
Highlights and accomplishments for the 2016-17 school year include:
  • Student driven Celebration Of Learning Night(s) and four Exhibition Nights
  • Fall and Spring Student-Led Conferences
  • CREW Overnight Trips to Mercy Mountain
  • Multiple Field-Work outings
  • Embedded Staff Development for teachers to effectively implement the NYS Common Core
Learning Standards as well the Expeditionary Learning Core Practices
  • 10 Community Meeting and student HOWLs Incentive Pay Days
  • Participation in the District-wide “Science Fair”
As we begin the planning process for next school year, we will follow the district’s new strategic plan.  Our teachers will be participating in meaningful professional development to expand teaching and learning strategies for our students over the summer.
Parents are a key component of their child’s success at Expeditionary Learning Middle School.  There are many ways that parents can become active members of our school community:  Participate in school events, attend PAC meetings or become a member of our School Leadership Team.

We need your help and welcome any suggestions that you may have to help support our school.
Our current 6th and 7th graders are required to read at least one book from the summer book list and complete the assignments.  Students received the book list and assignments on the last day of school.  The book list may also be downloaded from our website at www.syracusecityschools.com/elms.  Students will receive a grade for the work they complete over the summer and will also be rewarded for reading additional books from the book list and completing the included assignment(s).
If your child is attending the district’s summer school program it begins Monday, July 9th. Please contact the guidance department at 435-6416 if you need more information.
Please contact the Registration Center at (315) 435-4545 by August 6, 2018 if you have a change in address.  If you need to revise a phone number, you may make those revisions in Parent Access from the District’s website.
Enjoy the summer months ahead. We are looking forward to the 2018-19 school year!
